Wunderground is online, the live weather is from the weather station backup, so Wuderground is only getting data when it is sent, we do get power cuts here. this weather station is only for an idea of local weather NOT to be relied up on! This weather station is an Amateur station and would take hours to keep correcting data so that was 100%.

Indeed, this year you bear 1200mm per year? WUnderground 416mm in places, which is correct?

Hi, the main reason that the rain may not update when you can see rain on the webcam is due to the rain being horizontal, the rain just blows over the top of the rain collector. its not been raining that much today, it just sticks the the glass infront of the cam.

Hi, there was a problem with the windspeed today 4th July 10 @ around 20:00 to 21:30 (topgear time) anyway the problem should be now corrected, this was due to the temp sensor, so will have to see if it happens again. the windspeed went up to 101mph, hahahah, the max windspeed we had today was 49.9mph from what I remember. sorry if you think your roof had blown off! will keep an eye on the speed for a few hours.

3 May there was a slight Aurora, nothing great but it was there, keep an eye out for the next few days and it could get stronger, due to the sun activity.
"NOAA forecasters estimate a 45% chance of continued geomagnetic activity over the next 24 hours"

Hi Mica.
Thanks for the flickr comments, yes I have had a few images on spaceweather, good site for keeping an eye on the solar activity.
We have notice a slight dust/ash on the rear of the cars today, (rear facing north) and we dont normaly see that kind of dust about up here, so may be it could be from plume. We have only been here just over 11 years so still new to the Island.
The skies have been very full of darkish low cloud most of the day, until around 20:00 when blue sky came through, noticed on the sat images that the shetlands have had most of the plume over there way and the news reported ash there too.

Hi John,
by chance I landed on Lewis again, what a joy! I´ve been to the Islands in the late 90ies, this was always my prefered destination, but difficult ot reach from here. I love the winds and skies over there so much...
Your pics at flickr&here are overwhelming - thank you for sharing... did you ever post at spaceweather.com?
This morning I was searching for northern webcams(Norge, Scotland) to see how much the Iceland volcano plume affects skys east of it. Of course, without knowing status beforehand its hardly possible to draw comparisons.
Can you - as I assume - longtime resident and skyviewer, make out any difference now?
greetings from Austria mica |

Hi. There was a problem with the Weather Station this morning from about 07:30 ish, so if you think it got to 103mph, it was incorrect Problem has now been sorted, it turned out to be a USB cable giving the wrong voltage to the weather memory unit. so hopfully the weather should run as normal until the next proplem.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM: A sharp gust of solar wind hit Earth's magnetosphere today, April 5th, at approximately 0800 UT. The impact sparked a strong geomagnetic storm (Kindex=7). High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.
Keep an eye out tonight for any Aurora, thats if you have clear skies! |

Taken from Eoropie and the Butt of Lewis. 15th Feb 2010 Canon 350D 18mm f3.5 30 secs ISO 800
The Aurora was from a M8-Class solar flare few days before, not a great show compared to Finland, Iceland or Norway, but it was there

Hi IanD
The image is just a standard JPG which is FTP'd direct from the webcam via scripts built in the StarDot camera, every 10 secs , every hour and every day at midday. Any FTP program or webcam software will ftp a JPG image to your server from your webcam.
